An All-Star cast of country music and NFL stars gathered at the Palm on April 17, 2007, to raise funds to make wishes come true. This was the 6th annual Kevin Carter’s Waiting for Wishes, an event where celebrities wait tables and perform for tips, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Miami Dolphin and Nashville resident Kevin Carter, along with co-host Jay
DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, kept the spontenaeity going, and WKRN’s John
Dwyer served as emcee. Stars appearing this year included: Dierks
Bentley, John Rich, Cowboy Troy, Darryl Worley, Luke Bryan, Craig Morgan,
Troy Gentry, GAC’s Storme Warren, and Diamond Rio’s Brian Prout. Sports
celebs included Titans Keith Bulluck, Brad Hopkins, Craig Hentrich, Rob Bironas,
Brad Hopkins, Chris Sanders and Neil O’Donnell, plus NFL greats Drew
Bennett (Rams), Fred Miller (Bears), Zach Thomas (Dolphins) and many more!
The highlight of the night was hearing from 16-year old Ryan Smith and his Dad Michael about what a difference a wish can make. Make-A-Wish and the Nashville Predators granted Ryan’s wish for season tickets to the Predators games this past year.
Other great moments included Troy Gentry serenading wife Angie with an Elvis medley, seeing Florida alums Kevin Carter and Erron Kinney singing Rocky Top (with help from Jay DeMarcus), and Miami Dolphin Jon Dorenbos’ endless magic tricks. No one could top the duet of Luke Bryan and Drew Bennett leading the crowd in a rendition of You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling.
When the evening was over, the tip jars, silent and live auctions, and event proceeds exceeded $130,000! Special thanks go to Kevin Carter for throwing a great party for a great cause, and to presenting sponsors Bob Parks Realty and Benefit Consultants for making it all possible.
